Here’s what I knew about Cincinnati before we arrived:
- It’s in Ohio.
- WKRP is here.
- It must be somewhat big because it has both a professional baseball and football team.
- It’s home to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center which also happens to be the reason we are here. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t know this fact, I only recently learned it.
- Ummm. That’s it. I’ve got nothing else.
Here’s what I’ve discovered about Cincinnati since we arrived:
- It’s gorgeous. Wow, the skyline!
- The architecture is diverse and intriguing.
- There are a lot of parks, monuments, and museums.
- It has great food.
- It’s very clean, at least the parts we visited.
- The city is supportive of diversity.
- It’s right on the border with Kentucky and they are separated by the Ohio River. This means there are many interesting bridges connecting the two states. (Mr. C took this photo!)
- Its nickname is the Queen City. There is a fabulous sign downtown that beckons to children of all ages to practice their climbing skills. I’m pretty sure Mr. C climbed on each letter.
- Cincinnati’s sister city is Munich, Germany. There’s a section of the Berlin Wall on display near the waterfront. You can touch it!
- We need more time here.
- Let me say it again – absolutely gorgeous city. You should visit! Barnaby agrees.
Fascinating! It would not have been my first pick for a destination (or second, or third!) but you’ve opened my eyes!
That’s exactly how I felt too! It’s been the big surprise destination so far.
